Eugene, OR – April 5, 2025 — The Mercer Island High School Girls Track and Field Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team delivered an outstanding performance at the prestigious Oregon Relays, held at the legendary Hayward Field.
In a fiercely competitive field, the Mercer Island squad secured an impressive second place finish in the DMR, clocking a time of 11:39.79. This mark stood out among dozens of top-tier high school teams from across the West, highlighting the Islanders’ talent and cohesion as a relay unit.

The DMR event includes four legs of varying distances—1200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, and 1600 meters—and demands both speed and endurance. The Mercer Island lineup rose to the occasion with strong contributions from:
- Victoria Rodriguez (Grade 12)
- Lauren Balousek (Grade 9)
- Katie Kolpa (Grade 12)
- Sophia Rodriguez (Grade 10)
Their second-place finish came just behind Lakeridge High School, who posted the fastest time at 11:37.83. The result affirms Mercer Island’s position as one of the elite relay programs in the region.
The performance at Hayward Field reflects the strength and preparation of the Mercer Island relay team, which has consistently competed well in both state and regional meets. With a blend of senior experience and younger talent, the team continues to build on a solid foundation.
