Mercer Island Track & Field Results: Standout Performances at the 2025 Oregon Relays

The Mercer Island High School Track & Field team delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 Oregon Relays, held on April 4th and 5th at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Competing against some of the top talent from across the region and nation, Mercer Island athletes set numerous personal and season bests across a wide range of events.

In the distance events, Sophia Rodriguez had a standout meet, claiming first place in the 2 Miles (10:17.34 PR)3000m (9:35.56 SR), and 3200m (10:13.56 SR) — an extraordinary triple. She was joined by Bodie Thomas, who notched a Personal Record in the 2 Miles (9:31.97) and Season Records in both the 3000m (8:56.52) and 3200m (9:28.89)Connor Ward added depth with PRs in the 2 Miles (9:43.48), 3000m (9:09.30), and 3200m (9:41.07), while Finn Bunker and Dora Cheng also clocked PRs across all three distances.

Freshman Ella Zhang made her presence known with top-15 finishes and Personal Records in the 2 Miles Freshman (11:38.35)3000m Freshman (10:57.89), and 3200m Freshman (11:35.40).

Middle-distance standout Katie Kolpa competed in three events, earning PRs in the 1 Mile (5:16.48)1500m (4:57.60), and 1600m (5:14.78). In the 800mSofia Loop posted a strong 2:27.30 (SR), and Matthew Greer ran 2:03.25 (PR).

On the hurdles side, Sequoia Bales ran a Season Record of 16.33 in the 100m Hurdles and added a 49.44 SR in the 300m Hurdles. In the 200mLauren Balousek placed 18th with a 25.62 PR.

The team also had success in the steeplechase, where Victoria Rodriguez won the 2k Steeplechase (6:41.62 PR), and Silas Rennie finished 17th in 7:11.24 (PR).

In the field events, Kiera Kelly placed 10th in the Javelin (36.30m PR)Owen Clarkson vaulted to a 4.10m PR in the Pole VaultScout Bates cleared 1.45m in the High Jump, and Ari Wolff threw 12.69m in the Shot Put (SR).

Mercer Island’s relay teams also left their mark on the meet. In the 4×100 Relay, the team of Alexander Dusseau, David James Jr, Hudson Sulla, and Nicholas Castaneda placed 55th with a time of 45.32. The same quartet returned in the 4×200 Relay, finishing 21st in 1:34.26. In the Sprint Medley Relay (1600m)David James Jr, Connor Ward, Finn Bunker, and Nicholas Castaneda placed 26th in 3:48.54. The Distance Medley Relay (4000m) team of Matthew Lawrence, Matthew Greer, Owen Powell, and Alexander Dusseau took 1st place in 10:04.01.

The girls’ relay squads were just as impressive. The 4×200 Relay team of Scout Bates, Maia Shook, Maddie O’Brien, and Hanna Lassila placed 21st in 1:49.69. In the Sprint Medley RelayMaia Shook, Maddie O’Brien, Hanna Lassila, and Sofia Loop raced to an 8th-place finish in 4:21.31. Finally, the girls’ Distance Medley Relay team of Victoria Rodriguez, Lauren Balousek, Katie Kolpa, and Sophia Rodriguez placed 2nd overall with a time of 11:39.79.
