Victoria Rodriguez, a senior from Mercer Island High School in Washington, delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 Oregon Relays, winning the girls’ 2,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best and meet record time of 6:41.62. This achievement not only secured her victory but also positioned her as the U.S. leader in the event for the year.
Rodriguez’s dominance was evident from the start, as she took an early lead and maintained a substantial margin throughout the race. By the final lap, she had established a remarkable 46-second gap over her closest competitor. Her consistent lap times and efficient navigation of the barriers underscored her exceptional steeplechase abilities.
This victory adds to Rodriguez’s impressive track record at Hayward Field. She is the defending champion in the steeplechase at the Oregon Relays and also clinched the Nike Outdoor Nationals title last summer. Her consistent excellence in the event highlights her as one of the nation’s top high school steeplechase athletes.

In a post-race interview, Rodriguez attributed her success to rigorous training and the strong support system within the Mercer Island program. She emphasized the collective hard work and dedication of her teammates and coaches as pivotal factors in her achievements.
Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Rodriguez has garnered attention off the track, securing a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal earlier this year. As she continues to break records and set new benchmarks, the track and field community eagerly anticipates her future endeavors.
